Healthy Habits to Build Around Your Exercise Routine

With the New Year steadily approaching, it’s that time of year when we all look back and reflect on what we have accomplished over the past 365 days. If you were focused on developing a healthy exercise routine, you are likely well into your journey.

If you haven’t achieved your fitness goals, remember that the year isn’t over yet, and you still have plenty of time to develop an exercise routine that you can carry over into the next year.

At POW8R, we have helped countless clients develop a workable exercise routine. We always try to instil in our clients the importance of developing healthy habits around this routine.

Keep reading to find out some of our useful tips for building healthy habits.

Improve Your Eating

Yes, having a great workout routine is going to be incredibly beneficial when you are looking to transform your body, but it is equally as important to make sure that you are eating nutritiously beneficial foods that fuel your body.

When on a fitness journey, it is essential to consume enough protein and avoid high-fat and ultra-processed foods. Eating low-calorie foods can help you achieve your body goals and boost the impact of your exercise.

Plan Your Workouts

You should consider planning your workouts to ensure that your new lifestyle is sustainable, and that you are keeping track of the areas of your body that you are working out.

We know that after some workouts, we feel aches and pains, so we always ensure that we complete the more intense workouts on a quiet day. This is a great example of why planning your exercises is absolutely essential.

If you are unsure how to plan your workouts or struggle to stay on track, we suggest taking on one of our fitness challenges. The thorough information you receive throughout the challenges can help you learn to plan your exercises, and how to properly avoid bad exercise habits.

Log Your Progress

Many people tend to forget that when their bodies are gradually changing, it can be very difficult to notice. When you do not notice the payoff of your exercise routines, it can be easy to want to give up or develop a negative relationship with your body.

We always recommend that you log your progress to ensure that you are aware of your progress. This will give you further insight into the weight you have lost or gained and allow you to pinpoint where on your fitness journey you are.

Foster a Community

Being on a transformative journey can, at some points, be quite lonely. Often, you completely overhaul your lifestyle, and it can take a while to adjust to these changes.

It is always important to foster a community of people who are going through the same changes as you. Fitness journeys are not always easy, and without the right support, it can be easy to lose motivation.

On the POW8R web app, we have a wide community of people, all on their own individual fitness journeys. They are happy to offer advice and provide support when you feel unmotivated.

Rest and Recovery Days

A common mistake people make when embracing a new and healthier lifestyle is forgetting to take rest and recovery days. There is a scientific reason behind why taking rest days is so important.

Every time you workout, you create small tears in your muscles, which heal and come back stronger when you rest.

By allowing your body to heal, you will strengthen your muscles and actually improve your exercise technique in the future.

Many people who are new to a healthier lifestyle can be quite hard-headed and refuse to take the necessary rest days, leading to injury that prevents them from working out. Taking rest days when you need them can ultimately elevate your exercise routine.

Practice a Good Sleeping Schedule

Having a good sleeping schedule is always recommended when pursuing a healthier lifestyle.

Sleep is an essential part of any exercise routine. It is crucial to providing muscle recovery time and regulating energy. If you do not sleep enough, you may feel exhausted and unmotivated to exercise.

If you do not get enough sleep, you can risk injury, derailing your new healthy lifestyle.

Be Sure to Reward Yourself

Being strict with your diet and sticking to your fitness routine is important, but it is also important to ensure that you are taking the time to reward yourself for your efforts.

Now, we aren’t saying that you should treat yourself to a takeaway every time you complete a workout, but you should make sure that you have some rewards lined up.

Having something to look forward to can be a great motivator, encouraging you to push yourself further on your fitness journey.

Some great examples of ways that you can reward yourself for your hard work is by treating yourself to some workout clothes, or buying a purchase that you have been putting off.

Stay Hydrated

Everybody say it with us- always stay hydrated.

From childhood we are all reminded of just how important drinking plenty of water is, but nowhere is it more important than when you are trying to maintain a consistent workout routine.

When you are working out, you sweat a lot and your body loses a lot of its fluids. It’s important that you replace these fluids, as you can experience heat cramps, dehydration and other heat related issues if not keeping track.

Make sure that you have a bottle of water by your side when you are working out to ensure that you are replenishing any lost liquids.
